CT DMV · Study Sprint
Connecticut Written Knowledge Test

See it. Hear it. Pass it.

A fast refresher for someone who has taken the test before: high-yield visual rules, hands-free audio review, and interactive practice that tracks weak topics.

8-day sprint plan

Plan on 35–60 minutes a day. Because this is a refresher, focus on decision speed and commonly confused numbers rather than rereading every page.

Day 1

Diagnostic + right-of-way

Take a 25-question diagnostic. Review four-way stops, left turns, and pedestrians.

Day 2

Signs + markings

Shapes, colors, yellow/white lines, solid/broken lines.

Day 3

School buses + emergency vehicles

Memorize the median/barrier exception and roundabout yielding.

Day 4

Passing + parking + lights

Hydrant 10 ft, stop sign 25 ft, low beams in fog.

Day 5

Safe driving

Alcohol, distraction, bad weather, bicycles, mechanical problems.

Day 6

Full 25-question test

Score at least 20/25, then review misses by topic.

Day 7

Official practice tests

Complete all three CT DMV official practice tests and revisit weak areas.

Day 8

Light review + test prep

Review key numbers, signs, and mistakes. Avoid cramming lots of new material.

High-yield visual lessons

Each card keeps only what you need to decide quickly on test day. Use Listen for browser-based audio.

Core rule

Who goes first?

At a four-way stop with simultaneous arrival → vehicle on the right goes first. Left turn → yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. Entering from a driveway/alley → yield to main-road traffic.

High-yield exception

School bus red lights

No physical divider: both directions stop. The opposing-direction exception applies when a median or physical barrier separates the roadway.

Scenario

Emergency vehicles

See/hear an emergency vehicle → pull right and stop. If you are already in an intersection, clear it first.

Numbers

10 / 25 / 1

Hydrant 10 ft; stop sign 25 ft; no more than 1 ft from curb.

Numbers

3 sec / 4 sec

Normal following → 3-second rule. Merging/lane changes/entering a roadway → about a 4-second opening.

Safety

Low beams in fog

Fog / heavy rain / snow → low beams. High beams reflect back and increase glare.

Drive Audio

No downloads required. Tap once and the site reads the high-yield lessons in sequence. Useful for passive review in the car; the driver should not operate the screen while moving.

Interactive practice

These are original practice questions based on the official manual, not copies of the real test. Misses build a local weak-topic list on this device.

Start with one full 25-question diagnostic

If you score ≥20, your foundation is intact. Then focus on misses and speed. Before test day, target ≥23/25 twice in a row.

2026 test-day essentials

Work Zone Course
Since Jan. 1, 2026, learner’s-permit applicants must complete the free Connecticut Work Zone Safety Course and bring the completion certificate.
Vision first
The vision test comes first; Class D generally requires 20/40 or better, with or without correction.
25 questions
At least 20 correct answers are required. After a failure, the DMV says to wait seven days and pay to reschedule.

Finish with official sources

This site is a study accelerator; the official driver’s manual remains the source for test questions. CT DMV’s legacy audio manual is from 2014 and does not include the newest updates, so this site uses browser speech for the curated current review.

Not an official Connecticut DMV website. This study tool is based on CT DMV pages and the Driver’s Manual; official sources control if rules change.
